Imaging Physicist Residency

Job Description

The Duke University Clinical Imaging Physics Group (CIPG) seeks an individual to fill a diagnostic imaging medical physicist residency position with the Duke University Health System. This residency training position will cover diagnostic imaging modalities, including radiography, mammography, fluoroscopy, CT, ultrasound, MRI, informatics, display, and nuclear medicine. The resident will be trained to perform physics tests and evaluate performance of imaging equipment in terms of patient safety, image quality, efficiency, and compliance. The training and duties include medical physics inspections, analyzing the data, assessing the trends in equipment performance over time, maintaining required records and reports, coordinating with clinical staff, and interacting with clinicians on image quality and safety issues. A strong emphasis is placed on physics practices that are operationally oriented, efficient, scientifically based, and clinically relevant. The responsibilities may additionally include providing training to radiological technologists, radiology residents, and medical physics trainees.

Qualifications

The applicant should have a certificate, MS, or PhD in medical physics or related field.
The applicant should be ABR board eligible in Diagnostic Medical Physics.
The applicant should have a broad understanding of imaging modalities in healthcare as well as be strong in technical, clinical, and scientific aspects of medical imaging.

Application

All applicants must be registered for the Medical Physics Matching Program to be considered (NMS Program #20421).

Applications for this position will be accepted through the AAPM's MP-RAP program. The MP-RAP allows for one personal statement to be submitted and considered across all programs, encompassing both clinical imaging and therapy. We understand that there may be specific interests in clinical imaging (especially for those transitioning from radiation therapy or outside of medical physics) or unique extenuating circumstances that might not be fully addressed within your general personal statement. To accommodate this, we will consider an additional personal statement addendum. The purpose of this optional addendum is to provide additional insight into your interests or circumstances that align with clinical imaging or to address situations that cannot be accommodated within the MP-RAP personal statement. The optional addendum should not be used as an opportunity to create a longer, more detailed personal statement. Please make thoughtful choices when deciding whether to submit an optional addendum, keeping in mind that quality is more important than quantity.
A PDF file with a statement, 250 word maximum, including name and NMSID may be emailed to Joshua Wilson (joshua.wilson@duke.edu), Program Director, no later than December 29, 2023.

Alternately, interested individuals may send complete curriculum vitae, the names of three references, and a brief personal statement of career objectives to Joshua Wilson (joshua.wilson@duke.edu), Program Director, no later than December 29, 2023.
