The Duke Medical Physics Graduate Program has announced the sponsorship of a residency position in the Duke Imaging Physics Residency Program at Duke University Health System. The expected start date is July 1, 2020, and the residency is designed to last 24 months. The position is restricted to MS graduating students from the Duke Medical Physics Graduate Program. MS alumni are also welcome to apply. The individual is expected to seek ABR board eligibility in Diagnostic Radiologic Physics.
The individual should have a broad understanding of imaging modalities in modern medicine, and be strong in technical, clinical, and scientific aspects of medical imaging. The imaging modalities include radiography, mammography, fluoroscopy, CT, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, and MRI. The applicant will be trained to perform physics tests and evaluate performance of imaging equipment in terms of patient safety, image quality, efficiency, and compliance. The training and duties include medical physics inspections, analyzing the data, assessing the trends in equipment performance over time, maintaining required records and reports, coordinating with clinical staff, and interacting with clinicians on image quality and safety issues. A strong emphasis is placed on physics practices that are purposed to be operationally oriented, efficient, scientifically based, and clinically relevant. The responsibilities further include providing training to radiological technologists, radiology residents, and medical physics trainees. The individual may perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
